As well, also note I am now making some new offerings like being your Writing Advocate and Memoir Support groups.

Warmly,

The Door County aspect of the June writing retreat fell through. So we will regroup and do a more local retreat, with a just-the-weekend option for students. Therefore I am also doing it on Saturday-Tuesday, instead of Thursday night through Tuesday morning.

Registration and deposit are due June 1, but space is limited and the retreat is already half full, so register as soon as possible.

READ AND WRITE, JUNE 21, 2014, 10 AM-4 PM

Rebecca Solnit, The Faraway Nearby is the book.
We will meet at my house.
If you haven’t had a chance to read it, please do, even if you can’t come that day. It has a stupendous structure and lovely passages.

11-12 Write from book
12-1 Potluck lunch
1-3 Free writing time
3-4 Share/Feedback if desired

Please RSVP with me if you are going to come.

You can always come to part – you don’t have to come to all.

Students who have not read the book are also welcome; non-students of mine who have read the book can attend.

If you can donate $10, that is helpful.

ANNUAL MIKSANG PHOTOGRAPHY TRIP TO JEFFERSON FLEA MARKET, SUNDAY JUNE 22, 2014

Jefferson Flea Market is a riot. A wonderful combination of animals, dolls, tools and machinery, this market, out at the Jefferson Speedway in Jefferson Wisconsin, happens every Sunday May through September.

We take an annual trip out there as a group to photograph the wild chaos of a live, outdoor flea market in action. If you would like to come along, please email me.Even if you haven’t done a Miksang course, the trip is delightful and writers could have a good time of it as well.
The trip is free and we usually carpool.

TWO WRITE-IN DATES AT MY HOUSE, JUNE 10 AND JULY 23, 2014.

BOTH FREE AND ALL DAY!

SAVE-THE-DATE-

WEEKLY WRITING CLASSES BEGIN AGAIN WEEK OF AUGUST 11, 2014

Hold your spot! If you are already in a class, you will have priority to stay in that class time or switch to another. Then I open the classes to returning students, and finally, to new students.
If you are a new or returning student, visit my schedule page and figure out what would work for you, then email me with that time or those times. The sooner the better – first come, first write!

SAVE-THE-DATE –

ANNUAL FARM WRITING RETREAT IN ARENA WISCONSIN AUGUST 9-10, 2014

I will send out registration in June, but in the mean time, save these dates for the annual retreat out at Linda’s farm. It is close enough to drive in and out each day, or you are welcome to camp on Linda’s land, or crash on a couch! More details and registration in June.

SAVE-THE-DATE –

ANNUAL ORTON PARK WRITING BOOTH AUGUST 23-24 2014

I will send out more information, including sign up, closer to the dates, but save the dates for now.
This annual event, a fundraiser for Orton Park and part of the Orton Park Festival, is a profound, funny and delightful challenge.
Strangers give us topics and a couple of dollars, and we turn out spontaneous writing on-the-spot, then read it to them and they take it.
It’s like our regular practice, only faster, more charged and with a huge dose of generosity and letting go!

HAVE FRIENDS IN OTHER PLACES,

OR LIVE SOMEWHERE OTHER THAN MADISON?

Send along your friends (OR YOURSELF) in Toronto, London, Paris, Tallahassee, San Francisco, Austin – anywhere! – to my schedule page, or   email me. People can join online versions of both Contemplative Writing and Miksang Photography classes, and possibly catch me in person in their/your area.

I have a growing presence as an online teacher, and an established presence teaching all over North America and Europe. Help your friends connect with me as a teacher, and help me connect with them!

HAVE A FUN WRITE-IN IDEA?

Recently, a group of students and I met at the Madison Planetarium to write. This Planetarium idea was offered by a student.
During the summer, when weekly classes aren’t in session, anyone can offer a chance to write together!
Just send me an email at least a week in advance with a location.
Pick something fun – gardens, a museum, somewhere we wouldn’t normally have class. Even a cafe! And pick a time.
Plan to show up and hold the space while people write: you are the host.
It’s very informal – it won’t replace class, but it’s extending our community into the class-empty season.

THE MANY FORMS OF MEMOIR MENTORING I OFFER

Do you want to write a memoir or memoir essays/pieces?

Are you curious about how to go about turning your contemplative writing into finished pieces?

I offer two possible options, both $50/month:

1. Meet with me once a month, for an hour, for consultation on pages you send to me ahead of time. I can help you find markets for publishing, give editing feedback, or just listen and support. Whatever you need.

2. Join a memoir support group. I am running two so far and looking to start a third. These meet once a month and have four people per group. The meetings are intimate, compassionate and incredibly rich.

Either or both of these options have helped many students to take their writing deeper, even if they aren’t seeking publication.

Email me today for further information.

NEED AN OVERALL WRITING ADVOCATE,

FOR MEMOIR OR ANY OTHER SUBJECT?

Missing your weekly classes?

Can’t come to a retreat?

Wish you could have someone checking in on your writing once a week?

One-on-one is better for you?

Hire me for $50/month, and each week I will email at least twice (or call if you prefer).

Monday I will check in on your plan for writing.

Friday you will send me some writing to give you feedback on.

This is a newer offering, still in beta mode. Be one of the first to try it out!
